Syrian crackdown leaves at least 121 people dead. Where's the outrage?
We were shocked and appalled by the tragedy in Norway last week, and rightly so. Shouldn't we be also shocked and appalled by the ongoing slaughter in Syria? And it is not a "lone nut" who is carrying out these murders, but the State's killing machine...
In the worst violence since the Syrian uprising began in March, at least 121 people are reported to have been killed. In Hama, up to 95 people are dead after tanks and soldiers stormed the city.
The army has been besieging the city of Hama, which has seen some of the biggest demonstrations against President Assad, for nearly a month.
One doctor told the Reuters news agency: "Tanks are attacking from four directions. They are firing their heavy machine guns randomly and overrunning makeshift roadblocks erected by the inhabitants."
Another resident said bodies were lying uncollected in the streets, and predicted the death toll would rise. More...

"Blood-sucking" beast spreading fear in Russia...
A "supernatural, blood-sucking beast" is out in the wild and is attacking livestock in many countries, farmers across the world claim.
Disturbed farmers in Russia's third largest city of Novosibirsk in Siberia region have asked priests to bless their flocks because they fear the beast was behind a series of brutal attacks.
Villagers say the "El Chupacabra" beast does not eat the corpses of the animals it kills - it just drinks their blood.
They say puncture marks are seen on the necks of the dead animals - that has led to the name "vampire dog".
Local resident Viktor Shushpanov said, "It comes from the devil and I've seen it." More...

Russian woman throws out her parents to accomodate her 11 dogs!!! WTF!
A St. Petersburg woman barricaded herself in her apartment, throwing glassware and spraying tear gas at bailiffs who arrived to take her 11 dogs away and let her parents return home, the bailiff service said on Thursday.
The woman had kicked her 70-year-old parents out of the flat so that there was space for the dogs. It took bailiffs more than a year to resolve the problem.
"The judge decided that the St. Petersburg resident must part with her pets and let her parents return to their common flat," the bailiff service said in a statement.
The bailiffs had found an asylum for the dogs and then informed the woman of the date and time of their arrival to take the dogs. The pet lover said she had "a surprise" waiting for them.
"First, the woman locked herself in a room with the pets, barricading the door with boxes, wardrobes and other things," the bailiff service said. It took them more than three hours to get inside the apartment, with the woman throwing glasses and crockery at bailiffs from the windows and then spraying tear gas in a hole between doors.
The dogs put up resistance too, one of them biting a bailiff's shin. Eventually the men managed to get the woman handcuffed.
"She was taken to a local court," the bailiff service said. "The dogs were given sleeping pills and taken to the asylum." The parents returned to the apartment. Source...

Massacre in Syria as tanks attack Hama...(graphic video)
At least 95 people were killed on Sunday when the military launched an attack on the flashpoint protest city of Hama in central Syria, a human rights activist said.
Ammar Qorabi, who heads the National Organisation for Human Rights, reported the toll and also said army attacks across the country on Sunday killed at least 121 people and wounded dozens more.
Earlier, Rami Abdel Rahman of the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported a death toll in Hama of 45, but said that number could rise because of the number of seriously wounded and a lack of medical supplies.
One Hama resident reached by phone told AFP that the army entered the city at around 6:00 am (0300 GMT) in an apparent operation to wrest back control after almost two months during which security forces were absent.
Another said: "Five tanks are now deployed outside the governor's palace," and spoke of intermittent gunfire, while a third resident reported seeing four BTR-type armoured personnel carriers. More...

Tony Blair to be condemned for Iraq war fiasco...
Tony Blair is to face scathing criticism from the official inquiry into the Iraq War for the role he played in leading Britain into one of its biggest foreign policy fiascos in modern history.
The Mail on Sunday has been told that the former Prime Minister will be held to account on four main failings:
* Bogus claims that were made about Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction.
* Not telling the British public about his secret pledge with George Bush to go to war.
* Keeping the Cabinet in the dark by his ‘sofa government’ style.
*Failing to plan to avoid the post-war chaos in Iraq. More...

One year later, anger still rife in flood-ravaged Pakistan...
A year after deadly floods swept through the Pakistani town of Nowshera resident Imtiaz Ali is seething with anger as he struggles to rebuild his life with almost no help from the government.
Nowshera was one of the hardest hit towns in Pakistan's mountainous northwest, where flash floods wiped out entire villages leaving behind tangled branches, mud and many thousands of people needing help.
Ali and his family, who has been living in tents since the flood seriously damaged their home, say they have only just got a little assistance.
"We have just received 20,000 rupees (140.05 pounds) and are building a room to live in," Ali said as his 14-year-old son slopped cement on a wall of the room.
"No politician visited us throughout the year to see how we were living ... They may have gone to influential and rich people and given money to them, but we just got the 20,000 rupees, nothing else." More...

The woman who is never hungry or thirsty...
A woman told today how she never feels hunger or thirst after she was unable to eat or drink for 15 years because of a rare condition.
Molly Smith, 20, was rushed to hospital as a young child after her small intestine turned in on itself and had to be removed by surgeons.
As a result of the operation she was unable to digest food or drink and had to be fed through a tube directly into her heart for the next 15 years.
Molly has now undergone a lifesaving triple transplant to replace her liver, bowel and pancreas, which means she can eat and drink for the first time.
However, her years without food have left her unable to feel hunger or thirst or enjoy eating food. More + photos...

Tamil journalist in Sri Lanka attacked with iron bars...
An ethnic Tamil journalist in Sri Lanka's formerly embattled north was brutally attacked with iron bars, police said on Saturday, the latest in a string of assaults on the nation's media.
Gnanasundaram Kuhanathan, news editor of the Tamil-language daily Uthayan, was attacked by a gang of men wielding iron bars on Friday near his home in the area formerly held by separatist Tamil rebels, police said.
"The man is in intensive care in hospital" with serious head injuries, police spokesman Prishantha Jayakody told AFP, adding no arrests had yet been made.
At least six workers at the Jaffna-based Uthayan newspaper, including four journalists, have been killed since 2006 over its alleged pro-nationalist Tamil stance.
"This attack is aimed at scaring our employees so they will leave journalism," Uthayan's publisher E. Sarvanapavan told AFP. More...

Sex abuse by two paedophile clergymen in Australia led to 26 suicides...
AS MANY as 26 Victorians have committed suicide after being abused by two notorious paedophile clergymen, according to information gathered by a senior Victorian detective.
In interviews with a university researcher, Detective Sergeant Kevin Carson of the Ballarat Crimes Investigation Unit has revealed that during his investigations into Father Gerald Risdale and Christian Brother Robert Best - which led to both being convicted - he discovered that up to 24 young men had killed themselves in the years after they were abused by one or both of the men.

200 years later, women in Paris can soon wear trousers legally!!!
Women in Paris may soon be legally allowed to wear trousers after a female French senator called for a 200-year old ban technically still in place to be lifted.
The bizarre ban was first introduced in late 1799 by Paris' police chief, and stipulated than any woman wishing to "dress like a man" must seek special permission from police and provide medical justification for showing their legs.
This makes the laissez-faire French capital theoretically more hardline than Islamic states like Sudan on the dress code front.
"I discovered this order this year, I was amazed," said Maryvonne Blondin, a French senator who filed a bill in the Senate last month calling for the ban to be finally repealed. She hopes it will be approved soon. More...

I still cannot get one sound from the Feb. 6 Cikeusik mob attack on a handful of Ahmadiyah followers out of my head. Facebook and Twitter are creating a vain generation of self-obsessed people...
Facebook and Twitter have created a generation obsessed with themselves, who have short attention spans and a childlike desire for constant feedback on their lives, a top scientist believes.
Repeated exposure to social networking sites leaves users with an 'identity crisis', wanting attention in the manner of a toddler saying: 'Look at me, Mummy, I've done this.'
Baroness Greenfield, professor of pharmacology at Oxford University, believes the growth of internet 'friendships' – as well as greater use of computer games – could effectively 'rewire' the brain.
This can result in reduced concentration, a need for instant gratification and poor non-verbal skills, such as the ability to make eye contact during conversations. More...

"Heartbroken" Singapore singer-songwriter Inch Chua calls it quits and leaves for greener pastures...
Local musician Inch Chua is "heartbroken" over the lack of support for local music in Singapore, and has made the tough decision to leave her homeland to further her music career.
The 22-year-old singer-songwriter aired her frustration over the support -- or rather lack of support -- for local music in a note on Facebook earlier this week.
"I've always been one that's hopeful about things here, and I've been very positive. But after much much thinking and sitting on it for months, I decided it was the best decision to make if I wanted to grow as an artist," the pint-sized artiste told Yahoo! Singapore.
Chua is still in the midst of firming up the details of moving away, but it is understood that she will be heading to Los Angeles, which, according to her, has a more progressive environment for the arts. More...

Who commits terrorism?
If the Fox News promoters of racial profiling had been in charge of investigating last Friday’s terror attack in Norway, they might well have encountered blond, blue-eyed Anders Behring Breivik and his two smoking-hot guns only long enough to ask if he’d seen any suspicious-looking Muslims around.
After all, it has been a touchstone of the American Right, as well as right-wing Israelis, that Muslims are the source of virtually all terrorism and thus it makes little sense to focus attention on non-Muslims. A clean-cut Nordic sort like Breivik, who fancies himself part of a modern-day Knights Templar, is someone who would get a pass.

Police beat and taser 'gentle' mentally-ill homeless man to death...
A shocking video has been released allegedly showing police officers tasering and beating a homeless man to death who they claim was resisting arrest.
Though the video is not clear, eye witnesses say the homeless man - Kelly Thomas, 37 - was unable to put up any resistance and was lying on the ground on his front when the attack took place on July 5.
His screams and cries for his father can be heard amid the tasering noises.
The video was shot by a student in Fullerton, California. Kelly Thomas was beaten so badly he died in hospital several days later.
According to Gawker, Thomas - who suffered from schizophrenia - caught the attention of the police after someone reported that a burglar was breaking into cars parked near a Fullerton bus station. Photos + video...

50 percent of Swiss men related to Pharaoh Tutankhamun???
Every second Swiss male is related to the Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun, according to researchers in Zurich.
Scientists working on mapping the genetic profile of Tutankhamun, who ruled Egypt around 3,000 years ago, were able to reconstruct his Y-DNA profile.
They found that he belonged to the haplogroup R1b1a2 that is today strongly represented in Switzerland and other parts of Western Europe.
“Around 50 percent of Swiss men also belong to this group and, therefore, have a common ancestor with the pharaoh,” Roman Scholz, director of the Igenea centre, told the 20 Minuten news channel. More...

Murdochs were given secret defence briefings...
The extraordinary access that Cabinet ministers granted Rupert Murdoch and his children was revealed for the first time yesterday, with more than two dozen private meetings between the family and senior members of the Government in the 15 months since David Cameron entered Downing Street.
In total, Cabinet ministers have had private meetings with Murdoch executives more than 60 times and, if social events such as receptions at party conferences are included, the figure is at least 107.
On two occasions, James Murdoch and former News International chief executive Rebekah Brooks were given confidential defence briefings on Afghanistan and Britain's strategic defence review by the Defence Secretary, Liam Fox. A further briefing was held with Ms Brooks, Rupert Murdoch and the Sunday Times editor John Witherow. More...

Grandmother strip-searched and jailed for 12 days in Canada for "heroin". WTF!
This senior-citizen's trip across the border lasted far longer than expected when authorities couldn't tell the difference between oil and heroin.
Janet Goodin of Minnesota was crossing the border to play bingo and visit family when border patrol guards mistook a container of motor oil for heroin.
'They handed me the jar and said. 'What's this?' I said 'Well, I don't know. I suppose it's oil or something left over," really not thinking too much about it,' she said.
Bound for Sprague, Manitoba, the 66-year-old couldn't believe it when the jar of brownish liquid in her car tested positive for drugs. More + video...

New NASA data blow gaping hole in Global Warming alarmism...
NASA satellite data from the years 2000 through 2011 show the Earth’s atmosphere is allowing far more heat to be released into space than alarmist computer models have predicted, reports a new study in the peer-reviewed science journal Remote Sensing. The study indicates far less future global warming will occur than United Nations computer models have predicted, and supports prior studies indicating increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide trap far less heat than alarmists have claimed.
Study co-author Dr. Roy Spencer, a principal research scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and U.S. Science Team Leader for the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer flying on NASA’s Aqua satellite, reports that real-world data from NASA’s Terra satellite contradict multiple assumptions fed into alarmist computer models.
“The satellite observations suggest there is much more energy lost to space during and after warming than the climate models show,” Spencer said in a July 26 University of Alabama press release. “There is a huge discrepancy between the data and the forecasts that is especially big over the oceans.” More...

We Americans aren’t terribly good students of history. We are, in fact, more enamored with the myth of our country, and now, with the digital and artificial worlds of internet, movies and television, than we are with the actual history of our nation.
“America the beautiful; America, the land of opportunity; Anybody can grow up to be President; If you work hard and do good for others, you’ll rise to the top….”
Does anyone feel this dream is still alive? Did George W. Bush work hard and do good for others? He certainly did rise – or was pulled – to the top. What does that say about our actual nation? If a former addict, drop-out, and mass-executioner is the one chosen to “lead the country,” then we can dispel with the myth of “America the honest and just.” We have to examine the sources of power, and the history hidden just beneath the surface.
The actual history of the country is available, in plain sight, to anyone who wants to look. So much that is shocking is on the record, and so much more brought to the record through the Freedom of Information Act, that it’s a wonder we turn to The Bachelorette for entertainment. The history of our government is far more interesting. More...

A blogosphere of bigots, Islamophobia in Europe...
IT is tempting to view Anders Behring Breivik, the self-described Christian crusader behind the July 22 massacre in Norway, as an isolated case of pure evil. Yet history has taught us that such acts of violence rarely occur independent of their social and cultural surroundings. The assassination of Sweden’s prime minister, Olof Palme, on a Stockholm street in 1986, like the January shooting of Representative Gabrielle Giffords outside a shopping mall in Arizona, took place at a time when caustic antigovernment rhetoric was widespread.
Mr. Breivik managed to commit two terrorist attacks in a single afternoon. But the hatred and contempt from which he drew his deranged determination were shared with many others throughout the international right-wing blogosphere.
The racism and bigotry that have simmered for years on anti-Islamic and anti-immigration Web sites in Norway and other European countries and in the United States made it possible for him to believe he was acting on behalf of a community that would thank him. As John Donne famously put it, “No man is an island ... every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.” More...

Robert Mugabe 'spends £2m per month on travel abroad with his huge entourage'
Tyrant Robert Mugabe spends £2million per month on luxurious foreign travel, according to a Zimbabwean newspaper.
The president splashes cash on first-class jaunts around Africa and Asia, often with an entourage of more than 70, while his country remains desperately poverty-stricken.
The Daily News, one of the few independent newspapers in Zimbabwe, claimed official papers revealed the despotic leader spent £12million on travel in the first six months of this year.
That means that Mugabe has already considerably overspent his entire annual budget for transport, at a time when millions of Zimbabweans face poverty.
The publication reported: 'President Robert Mugabe is the biggest spender in government as revelations emerge that he overshot his annual foreign travel budget by a massive 133 percent in just six months. More...

Was the hotel maid's tape recordings doctored in favour of Domnique Strauss-Kahn?
The lawyer for the hotel maid who has accused Dominique Strauss-Kahn of sexual assault tells The Daily Beast that tape recordings in the possession of prosecutors capture her describing her alleged attack to an incarcerated friend less than 24 hours after it occurred in a manner consistent with what she told police and prosecutors.
The tapes also show a much different conversation about lawyers and money than what was leaked by authorities earlier this month in a newspaper report, attorney Kenneth Thompson said late Wednesday night after listening to the audio recordings for the first time.
Thompson and the maid, Nafissatou Diallo, 32, met Wednesday with the New York District Attorney’s Office for the first time in nearly a month after the relationship between the alleged victim and prosecutors fell apart over questions about her credibility.
(...)
“The tape they played today does not capture Nafi Diallo being recording as saying, ‘He has a lot of money and I know what to do,’ as was leaked to The New York Times,” Thompson said. “Instead it shows there were at least three calls over several days.
“In the first call on the day after the attack, Ms. Diallo clearly reported to her friend in prison that ‘a man tried to rape me on my job. He is big and powerful. I did not know who he was when he attacked me. Because he couldn’t take off my clothes, he put his penis in my mouth.’ And she explained she tried to stop him,” the lawyer said in an interview. Bangladesh mob beats to death six suspected thieves...
Six alleged robbers in southern Bangladesh have been beaten to death by a mob after the gang they were part of shot a villager dead, police say.
Eight people, including three suspected bandits, were injured in the incident.
Police say the robbers, in the Noakhali area, shot dead a shop owner who tried to stop the group looting his store.
Mob justice is common in Bangladesh, where police are accused of being slow to respond to crimes, particularly in rural areas.
Correspondents say that the problem is compounded because the country has one of the lowest number of police officers per head of population in the world. More...

Part human/part animal hybrid monsters are being created by scientists all over the planet...
Crazed scientists all over the globe are "playing god" with the very building blocks of life. Today, thanks to extraordinary advances in the field of genetic modification, scientists are now able to do things that were once unthinkable. Part human/part animal hybrid monsters are being created by scientists all over the planet and it is all perfectly legal. Scientists justify mixing the DNA of humans and animals by claiming that it will help them "cure diseases" and "feed the world", but the reality is that all of this genetic modification is a tremendous threat to the human race. It is only a matter of time before humans start allowing themselves to be genetically-modified in order to "fight illness" or to "enhance" their abilities. The temptation to insert the genes of animals or plants into people in order to create "super soldiers" or a "superior race" will certainly prove to be much too tempting. Unless something is done to hold all of this back, it seems almost certain that genetic hell will be unleashed on the human race. Once genetically-modified humans start breeding with normal humans there will be no putting the genie back into the bottle. Eventually, we could get to the point where there are very few "100% humans" left. More...

"The uncivilised Malays" that target the Jews...
I’d like to write about civility in this nation of ours, and I’d like to talk to the 60 per cent of the population that prides itself on being Malays and Muslims. The rest of you can read this, but honestly, I’m focussing on the Malays for this one.
I’d like to start off with one question: Where the hell were your brains and your religious beliefs during Bersih 2.0 and the Malaysia–Chelsea football friendly?
I would think your parents educated you better in Malay and Islamic culture, but apparently not. But I don’t blame your parents. They were probably so busy working to put food on the table that they didn’t have time to focus on these aspects.
We are a race that constantly supports mob rule. Just look at any Umno or PAS meeting and that becomes pretty obvious pretty fast. If you saw our home minister raising a keris in the streets, would you actually clap and praise him on, screaming Allah is Great, or would you call the nearest hospital or police station for help?
Quite a valid point, yes? More...
