Singapore charged a former U.S. college football player with 21 counts of money laundering on Wednesday, adding to accusations he overstayed his visa that could end in caning and a long prison term.
Prosecutors said that over the past two years Kamari Charlton — a former reserve tight end for Florida State University — received $243,000 that was the proceeds of illegally activity. In one instance, he was allegedly involved in duping an Australian into wiring him $16,850.
The 37-year-old Charlton faces a fine of up to 500,000 Singapore dollars ($379,000), a jail term of up to seven years, or both, for each charge. More...
