Rodrigo Duterte 'happy to slaughter' addicts as Hitler did Jews...
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has compared his anti-drug campaign to the Holocaust, saying he would kill as many addicts as Hitler did Jews.
"Hitler massacred three million Jews... there's three million drug addicts. I'd be happy to slaughter them," he said.
At least six million Jews as well as other minorities are known to have been killed by the Nazis.
Mr Duterte has overseen a bloody crackdown on drug users and dealers since taking office in June.
Official figures say more than 3,000 people have been killed in police operations or by vigilantes. Full story...

'We won't wear hijabs': Chess queens threaten to boycott world championships in Iran after being told they MUST wear Islamic headscarfs
Top women chess players are threatening to boycott the world championship in Iran because they will be forced to wear hijabs.
Female Grandmasters will risk arrest if they do not cover up to compete in the strict Middle Eastern country due to host the knock-out tournament next year.
The World Chess Federation, known by its French acronym Fide, has now been accused of failing to stand up for women’s rights after telling players to accept the laws and respect ‘cultural differences’, The Telegraph reported.
US women's champion Nazi Paikidze said: ‘It is absolutely unacceptable to host one of the most important women's tournaments in a venue where, to this day, women are forced to cover up with a hijab.
‘I understand and respect cultural differences. But, failing to comply can lead to imprisonment and women's rights are being severely restricted in general. It does not feel safe for women from around the world to play here.’ Full story...

India's organic rice success story proves that GMOs are unnecessary...
(...)
In India, where GM agriculture has proven to be a huge disaster, driving many farmers to suicide over debts to GM seed companies after the technology failed to deliver the promised yields, many farmers are turning to organic methods – and with astonishing results:
"In Bihar, India, farmers are breaking world records for rice production without agrochemicals or GMOs. In 2013, Sumant Kumar and his family produced an astounding 22.4 tons of rice on only one hectare of land, much more than anything achieved by GM seed companies and their expensive herbicides," Anonymous noted.
The secret to Kumar and other Indian rice farmers' success is a new organic rice growing method called the System of Rice Intensification (SRI). This breakthrough approach uses different techniques than those of conventional rice farming, including the wide spacing of young rice plants in a square pattern, and avoidance of the traditional method of flooding rice fields.
With the SRI approach, the rice fields are kept moist rather than being flooded, and are fertilized naturally instead of with expensive chemical fertilizers. Rotary weeding is also used, and the end result is greater yields through an approach that also allows farmers to adapt to increasingly unpredictable weather patterns. Full story...

Exorcists wanted: Demonic possessions causing an emergency, Catholic priests say...
Experts from the Catholic Church in Italy and the US have said that exorcists are needed as never before, because more and more people are trying… Satanism.
Exorcism experts say there is a pressing need to find a solution.
“The lack of exorcists is a real emergency. There is a pastoral emergency as a result of a significant increase in the number of diabolical possessions that exorcist priests are confronting,” Valter Cascioli, a psychologist and scientific consultant to the International Association of Exorcists, which is endorsed by the Vatican, told the Italian La Stampa newspaper.
“The number of people who take part in occult and satanic practices, which lead to serious physical, psychological and spiritual damages, is constantly rising,” he added.
It’s young people who are particularly at risk, Cascioli also said, as they use the internet a lot. Full story...

The countries where cash is on the verge of extinction...
My dad, a former Wall Street trader always advised me “cash is king” and to “hold on to it” when the economy gets tough.
But in the Netherlands, cash is definitely not getting the royal treatment. In so many places, it has simply ceased to be recognised as legal tender. More and more Dutch stores, from upscale health-food store Marqt to my local baker and bagel shop, take pin — or debit — cards exclusively. Some retailers even describe going cash-free as “cleaner” or “safer”.
Tucking my debit card firmly away, I decide to see how far a bundle of cash will get me. Not far. The big-ticket items are strictly cashless affairs: my rent and my telephone bill among them.
I meet with baffled expressions and some resistance. “I can’t remember the last time we received a cash payment,” says Marielle Groentjes, an administrator with the company that manages my apartment, Hoen Property Management BV, and has worked there for a decade. “We don’t like cash in the office, we don’t have a safe, and banks charge you for depositing it.” Full story...

Couple realise they have been robbed on holiday after seeing this photo...
A couple on holiday in Thailand got a nasty surprise when they flicked through their pictures following a visit to a temple in Chiang Mai.
They realised they had been ripped off after one of the snaps appeared to show a child stealing the woman's watch.
The man, who posted the image to Reddit, wrote: "Girlfriend in the progress of getting her watch stolen".
Not noticing the child slipping the watch off her wrist, the woman smiled for a photograph at a temple in Chiang Mai, Thailand, as her partner captured the image.
The man wrote under the photograph: "This pic solved the mystery of the missing watch". More + photo...

‘Utter disregard for civilian life’: MSF slams Saudi airstrikes on Yemen hospitals...
Saudi Arabia blatantly ignored the protected nature of medical facilities and demonstrated a total disregard for civilian life in Yemen when it executed indiscriminate and apparently intentional airstrikes on NGO-affiliated hospitals, MSF said in two new reports.
The reports by Doctors Without Borders (MSF) were released on Tuesday ahead of a UN Security Council closed session on the protection of medical missions. The attacks described in the reports were on the MSF clinic in the city of Taiz on December 2, 2015 and on a hospital in Abs, Hajjah governorate on August 15, 2016.
The reports state, that the both facilities had been operating strictly according to international rules, and “the neutrality of the hospital had not been compromised.”
“Ever since MSF began supporting the Abs hospital in July 2015 a strict no-weapons policy has been enforced at Abs hospital,” stated the report on the Abs hospital attack. “In addition to the security check at the entrance where all weapons, including jambiyas [traditional Yemeni swords], have to be left before accessing the facility, no military uniforms or vehicles are allowed on the premises.” Full story...

China’s foreign ministry joins war of words against Singapore over South China Sea dispute...
The foreign ministry has blamed an unspecified “individual nation” for stirring up tensions over the South China Sea dispute after an unusual war of words broke out between the Singaporean envoy and the editor-in-chief of an influential mainland tabloid newspaper.
The incident underscores the difficulty Singapore faces in maintaining good ties with an assertive Beijing.
Without directly naming Singapore, foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said an “individual nation” had insisted on including South China Sea issues in the final document of the recent Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit held in Venezuela on September 18.
Geng was asked to comment on the tiff that erupted between Singaporean ambassador Stanley Loh and Hu Xijin, the editor-in- chief of Global Times, a nationalistic tabloid under People’s Daily. Full story...

Duterte declares upcoming Philippines-U.S. war games 'the last one'
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte plunged one of the United States' most important Asian alliances deeper into uncertainty on Wednesday by declaring upcoming U.S.-Philippines military exercises "the last," and ruling out any joint navy patrols.
The firebrand Duterte pledged to honor a longstanding security treaty with the United States, but said China opposed joint marine drills in the Philippines starting next week and there would be no more war games with Washington after that.
"I am serving notice now to the Americans, this will be the last military exercise," Duterte said during a visit to Vietnam. "Jointly, Philippines-U.S.: the last one."
Duterte's remarks gave one of the strongest signs yet of fissures in a historic alliance that Washington has relied upon as it tries to cement its influence in Asia to counterbalance China's rapid rise. Duterte's foreign minister later said his comments had been taken out of context. Full story...

Election or Revolution? Open Letter to the People of the US...
As citizens of the USA with a presidential election approaching you have a wonderful opportunity to ponder whether to participate in this election or to participate in the ongoing American Revolution.
Your first revolution might have overthrown the authority of the British monarchy and aristocracy but the one in progress must remove the US elite which has executed a political coup against your government. And you cannot remove elite coupmakers in a fraudulently conducted election in which the 'choice' is essentially between two violently insane individuals, each of whom represents the violently insane US elite. See 'The Global Elite is Insane' http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/PO1402/S00056/the-global-elite-is-insane.htm and 'Why Violence?' http://tinyurl.com/whyviolence
The real value of this second revolution, which moves along steadily with routine outbreaks over a multitude of peace, environmental and social justice issues and occasional 'uprisings', such as the Occupy Movement in 2011 which spawned a range of new and visionary initiatives, is that it could give citizens of your country the chance to finally reclaim the Republic for those people who genuinely care about 'life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness'. And, just as importantly, have sufficient vision to regard these aspirations as something to be shared with the entire US population, starting with Native Americans, and even those of us in the rest of the world including those countries that are currently victims of US elite violence, whether it be wars, drone strikes, coups, economic exploitation or ecological destruction. ‘Asylum spray’ handed out in Denmark by far-right party ‘to ward off migrant attacks’
The anti-immigrant Party of the Danes has been spotted handing out cans of ‘asylum spray’ on the streets. The “legal and effective” way of opposing the “problem” of migrants was launched in Haderslev – the location of recent harassment reports.
Haderslev, a port city, was one of the places in Denmark where women complained about migrants harassing them at nightclubs, so it seemed like the perfect testing ground to Daniel Carlsen, the founder of the Danskernes Parti.
“I don’t think it is provocative. We are tackling an actual problem in our society, where many Danes feel unsafe,” Carlsen told TV Syd. “Partially because there are so many migrants in the country and partly because one isn’t allowed to defend one’s self.”
To keep things within the rule of law, hair spray was used for the campaign, as pepper spray use is forbidden in Denmark.
Last week’s antics in Haderslev quickly stirred controversy. Some found it hard not to be visibly upset by the display, as was the case with Charlotte Bech, from Silkeborg. Full story...

South Asia's 'disposable women'
A new report has called for the practice of some British Asian men mistreating women and leaving them soon after getting married in South Asia, to be treated as a form of domestic violence.
Academics at the University of Lincoln have discovered that these men have been taking thousands of pounds from their new wife's family and using the women as domestic slaves for their in-laws.
These "disposable women", as the report calls them, are also often physically abused and then abandoned either once they have moved to the UK, or - more commonly - while still in India.
Some are brought temporarily to the UK but later taken on a pretend holiday back to India, where they have their passport taken away.
Many women hide the fact that this has happened to them, so academics spent more than a year finding 57 women in India who had experienced the phenomenon and would share their stories. Full story...

Egyptian state media claims Isis is 'made up' and 9/11 was carried out by West to justify war on terror...
A columnist for a state-run newspaper in Egypt has suggested the US invented Isis and set up the 9/11 attacks to justify its military interventions in the Middle East.
“Is it possible to believe the official version, from the US government, of the events of 11 September 2001?” wrote journalist Noha Al-Sharnoubi in Al-Ahram, a major national Egyptian newspaper owned by the government.
Ms Al-Sharnoubi said the World Trade Centre and Pentagon attacks could have been premeditated to "justify the war on terror” in her column, published on 23 August.
She also cast doubt over the veracity of the actions of the so-called Islamic State, alleging the extremist group could have been made up to “trick” the world and validate US foreign policy.
Ms Al-Sharnoubi does not appear to shy away from controversial subjects. Her weekly column has recently discussed issues such as burkini bans, French military involvement in Libya and whether it is acceptable to sacrifice chickens, duck and geese. Full story...

Saudi women file petition to end male guardianship system...
A petition signed by more than 14,000 Saudi women calling for an end to the country's male guardianship system is being handed to the government.
Women must have the consent of a male guardian to travel abroad, and often need permission to work or study.
Support for the first large-scale campaign on the issue grew online in response to a trending Twitter hashtag.
Activist Aziza Al-Yousef told the BBC she felt "very proud" of the campaign, but now needed a response.
In the deeply conservative Islamic kingdom, a woman must have permission from her father, brother or other male relative - in the case of a widow, sometimes her son - to obtain a passport, marry or leave the country. Full story...

Sri Lanka’s president misses an opportunity at the UN...
Sri Lanka’s Maithripala Sirisena spoke at the United Nations (UN) on Wednesday. Mr. Sirisena touched on economic development, poverty, drugs and more. It was a brief speech. However, Mr. Sirisena could have at least attempted to make a clear, articulate case for the most important aspects of the coalition government’s reform agenda, especially transitional justice. Regrettably, the president failed to do that.
Let’s not forget that Colombo continues to drag its feet on a host of war-related issues: the detention of Tamil political prisoners, the military’s continued occupation of civilian land, pervasive militarization across the country’s north and east, among other matters. Leaving the government’s sincerity toward deeper reform aside for a moment, one could argue that the environment to implement a credible, comprehensive transitional justice package does not yet exist, especially in the northern and eastern provinces.
In other international settings, Mangala Samaraweera - the country’s foreign minister - has issued soaring, exuberant speeches that don’t reflect reality, although at least Mr. Samaraweera has attempted to talk about some of the more controversial components of the government’s reform agenda. To a large degree, the foreign minister’s remarks have been intended to express what Colombo thinks the international community wants to hear. But then, usually, similar messages are neither conveyed to a domestic audience nor backed up with concrete action. Full story...

Bosnian migrant blew up his ex-girlfriend with a HAND GRENADE after she ran off with another man...
A Bosnian migrant in Austria travelled back to his homeland to blow up his ex-girlfriend with a hand grenade when he found out she was seeing somebody else.
Bosnian migrant Dalibor Gavric, 42, lived in the Austrian capital of Vienna where he met waitress Miljana Malesevic, 24, also from Bosnia. The couple started a relationship and even though he was married and had two daughters, he divorced his wife so that he could live with the younger woman.
But he was always jealous, and frequently the jealousy turned to violence which resulted in Milijana, with whom Gavric had a 4-year-old son, eventually leaving him and when she could not escape in Vienna, she fled back to Bosnia two months ago.
With the experience she learned in Austria, she set up a cafe back home and even found a new partner in the town of Prnjavor in Northern Bosnia.
The cafe called 'Acapulco' was doing well and she was reportedly enjoying life with her new boyfriend. Full story...

In Japan, hundreds of thousands of young people are refusing to leave their homes...
According to a survey released by the government of Japan this month, more than half a million young people have recoiled from society to lead reclusive lives.
The phenomenon, called “hikikomori,” is defined by the Japanese Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry as people who haven’t left their homes or interacted with others for at least six months. Of the 541,000 people between age 15 and 39 who fit that description, 34% have spent seven years or more in self-isolation. Another 29% have lived in reclusion for three to five years.
Hikikomori (the term is used for both the condition and its subjects) surfaced as a phenomenon in Japan in the 1990s. At the time, some experts estimated that about one million people, mostly young men in their 20s, were spending their days locked up in their bedrooms, reading manga (comic books), watching TV, or playing video games. They refused to work or go to school and often didn’t communicate with family members, let alone friends.
There’s no standard course of treatment. Doctors believe the condition, which is not yet classified as an official disorder, is caused by a mix of psychological and societal influences. It’s far more common in men, who face more cultural pressure to succeed socially and professionally than women do. Full story...

Canadian town steams over Nestlé bid to control local spring water well...
A small town in Ontario, Canada, has prompted fresh scrutiny of the bottled-water industry after its attempt secure a long-term water supply through the purchase of a well was outbid by the food and drinks multinational Nestlé.
When authorities in Centre Wellington, population of about 30,000, learned that Nestlé had put a bid on a spring water well in their region, they scrambled over the summer to counter with a competing bid. The goal was to safeguard a water supply for the township’s fast-growing population, Kelly Linton, the mayor, told the Guardian. “By 2041, we’ll be closer to 50,000 so protecting our water sources is critical to us.”
Using a numbered company, the municipality submitted what Linton described as an “aggressive bid” for the five-hectare site. “We put in more money than they did and we removed all conditions.” He declined to specify the exact amount of the bid.
An agreement forged with Nestlé after its initial bid, made 18 months earlier, gave the company the right to respond. “They had the opportunity to match our offer and that’s how we lost on that on that one,” said Linton. Full story...

U.S. police killings reminiscent of lynching, UN group...
Police killings of black people in the United States are reminiscent of lynchings and the government must do far more to protect them, a United Nations working group says in a report that will be debated at the U.N. Human Rights Council on Monday.
The hard-hitting criticism - drawing a comparison between modern police behaviour and mob killings of blacks in the 19th and 20th centuries - comes at a time of renewed racial tension in the United States.
This week Charlotte, North Carolina, saw street riots over the shooting of a black man, Keith Scott, by a black police officer. On Friday, a white police officer who fatally shot an unarmed black man turned herself into authorities in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
“Contemporary police killings and the trauma that they create are reminiscent of the past racial terror of lynching,” said the report by the U.N. Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent. Full story...

I put a couple of phrases in that quote in bold because I really wanted you to notice a couple of things.
First of all, it is very alarming to hear that the number of New Yorkers staying in homeless shelters “reached an all-time high” last weekend. I thought that we were supposed to be in an “economic recovery”, but apparently things in New York are rapidly getting worse.
Secondly, the fact that applications for emergency grants are up 26 percent compared to last year is another indication of how rough things are right now for average families in New York. We all remember what happened when millions of families lost their homes to foreclosure across the nation during the last financial crisis, and nobody should want to see a repeat of that any time soon.
During this election season, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton would like all of us to believe that the economy is doing just fine, but that is not true at all. Even using the doctored numbers that the government gives us, Barack Obama is solidly on track to be the only president in all of U.S. history to never have a single year of 3 percent GDP growth, and he has had two terms to try to do that. Neighbours form human chain to prevent bailiffs evicting mum-of-five...
This is the moment kindhearted neighbours formed a human chain around a mum's house - to stop her being kicked out in a 'revenge eviction'.
Nimo Abdullahi, 39, was told she and her family would be thrown out of their home of 12 years after she complained to her landlord about damp.
But in a bid to protect the mum-of-five from a 'revenge eviction', residents and campaigners turned out to stop it happening.
Around 30 people stood side by side, arms linked, to build a wall of bodies in front of the privately-rented property in Easton, Bristol.
All morning, more neighbours joined the blockade - with a newlywed couple living opposite the family cutting up their wedding cake to keep the protesters sustained.
When bailiffs turned up at 11am on Tuesday, they weren't able to get inside. Full story...

For the first time, Saudi Arabia is being attacked by both Sunni and Shia leaders...
The Saudis step deeper into trouble almost by the week. Swamped in their ridiculous war in Yemen, they are now reeling from an extraordinary statement issued by around two hundred Sunni Muslim clerics who effectively referred to the Wahhabi belief – practiced in Saudi Arabia – as “a dangerous deformation” of Sunni Islam.
The prelates included Egypt’s Grand Imam, Ahmed el-Tayeb of al-Azhar, the most important centre of theological study in the Islamic world, who only a year ago attacked “corrupt interpretations” of religious texts and who has now signed up to “a return to the schools of great knowledge” outside Saudi Arabia.
This remarkable meeting took place in Grozny and was unaccountably ignored by almost every media in the world – except for the former senior associate at St Antony’s College, Sharmine Narwani, and Le Monde’s Benjamin Barthe – but it may prove to be even more dramatic than the terror of Syria’s civil war. For the statement, obviously approved by Vladimir Putin, is as close as Sunni clerics have got to excommunicating the Saudis.
Although they did not mention the Kingdom by name, the declaration was a stunning affront to a country which spends millions of dollars every year on thousands of Wahhabi mosques, schools and clerics around the world. Full story...

Britain increases aid to Yemen while selling arms to Saudis - who are bombing Yemen...
International Development Secretary Priti Patel announced that Britain will provide an additional £37million in funding for Yemen this year.
A total of £72m has already been committed to the crisis in Yemen by the UK Government.
But the Government has simultaneously approved more than £3billion in arms sales over the past 18 months.
Hundreds have been killed in airstrikes that have hit schools, hospitals, markets and private homes, and nearly half of Yemen's 22 provinces are on the verge of famine.
The rapidly deteriorating situation in Yemen has prompted campaigners to call on Theresa May to halt the arms trade with the Saudis. Full story...

“Netanyahu’s peculiar claim that his government has defeated the BDS movement would have been worthy of a serious response if it weren’t so outlandish, false and laughable.
The claim comes in direct response to a professional report issued by the Israeli state comptroller accusing the Netanyahu government of utter “failure” in responding to the impressive growth of the BDS movement in recent years.
Despite its undeniable influence in the US Congress and, by extension, in Brussels and other world capitals, the fact that most in the Israeli establishment recognize today is that BDS is winning at the grassroots level, where Israel is losing the global battle for hearts and minds.
It is in this arena where our possession of the moral higher ground trumps Israel’s military, financial and political prowess, which is deemed irrelevant.
A quick look at the top 11 achievements of BDS since the beginning of 2016, during the height of Israel’s war of repression and lawfare against the movement, reveals how fast the movement is growing.
It also reveals how delusional Netanyahu has become in his desperate attempt to deflect internal condemnation of his failure to stop BDS.” Full story...

Catholic Church ACQUITS Mexican priest who admitted raping 30 young girls even though he knew he was infected with HIV...
The Catholic Church has acquitted an HIV-infected priest who has admitted to raping close to 30 young girls between the ages of five and 10 years old.
According to a bombshell report, which appeared in the Spanish-language news site Urgente24.com, the priest, Jose Garcia Ataulfo, was absolved of any wrongdoing by the Archdiocese of Mexico.
Ataulfo has admitted to sexually assaulting indigenous young girls from Oaxaca, a state in southern Mexico known for its large indigenous population.
The priest has yet to face any criminal charges, most likely due to the significant influence that the Catholic Church wields in Mexico, particularly in areas populated by indigenous ethnic groups. Full story...

New mayor kills off Rome's bid for 2024 Olympics...
Rome's new mayor, Virginia Raggi, pulled the plug on the city's bid to host the 2024 Olympics, saying staging the summer games would bury the Italian capital under mountains of debt and tonnes of cement.
The decision represents a blow to the International Olympic Committee, which has already seen Boston and Hamburg abandon their 2024 bids, and is struggling to convince potential host cities that it is worth putting on the sporting extravaganza.
Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi had championed Rome's challenge, but he needed the backing of the city council to press ahead. Raggi's decision means only Paris, Los Angeles and Budapest are left in the running to stage the 2024 games.
"It would be irresponsible for us to support this candidacy," said Raggi, whose anti-establishment 5-Star Movement took power for the first time in Rome after a landslide victory in local elections in June.
"We have nothing against the Olympics and sport ... but we don't want sport to be an excuse for more rivers of cement in the city. We won't allow that." Full story...

Yahoo confirms major breach — and it could be the largest hack of all time...
Yahoo on Thursday revealed a massive data breach of its services.
Yahoo "has confirmed that a copy of certain user account information was stolen from the company's network in late 2014 by what it believes is a state-sponsored actor," the company posted on its investor relations page.
The stolen data include names, email addresses, telephone numbers, birthdays, hashed passwords, and some "encrypted or unencrypted security questions and answers." Yahoo says it believes no payment card or bank account information was stolen.
Yahoo said it believes that at least 500 million user account credentials were stolen, which would make it the biggest breach of all time — bigger than the Myspace breach of 360 million user accounts and 427 million passwords.
The breach has turned out to be larger than the 200 million accounts previously expected. Full story...

'First' food waste 'supermarket' opens in Leeds...
A food waste "supermarket", which organisers say is the first in the UK, has been opened in Leeds.
The Real Junk Food Project's warehouse on the Grangefield Industrial Estate in Pudsey is stocked with surplus food from supermarkets and local businesses.
Project founder Adam Smith said people "pay what they feel" for the goods by giving time, money or skills.
The food is donated by several major supermarket chains as well as cafes, restaurants and food banks.
Mr Smith said the idea of using food which was being thrown away began three years ago when a cafe, offering meals produced from waste food, opened in Armley.
There are now more than 120 similar cafes across the world. Full story...

Duterte to EU: “I read the condemnation of the EU against me. I will tell them, ‘fuck you.’
President Duterte let loose a fresh string of tirades against the European Union, on Tuesday, after it called for a halt to extrajudicial killings of drug suspects in the Philippines.
“I read the condemnation of the EU against me. I will tell them, ‘fuck you.’ You’re doing it in atonement for your sins,” Mr. Duterte said in a speech before local government officials in Davao City.
Duterte said members of the European Union have become strict about the behavior of other nations due to their “guilt feelings” over the atrocities they had committed in the past.
He also called them hypocrites, as he added that a check of encyclopedias would show what European countries have done, he said. For instance, France and Great Britain had killed Arabs, he said.
“And then EU now has the gall to condemn me. I repeat it, ‘fuck you,’” he said.
Mr. Duterte also asked who he was supposed to have killed in the Philippines.
Assuming accusations against him were true, and there were over 1,000 killed in the country, he asked who were the people killed.
“Who are they? Criminals? You call it genocide? How many did they kill?” he asked. Source...

Source...

THOUSANDS of ‘witches’ imprisoned for years in huge witchcraft prison camps in Ghana...
Hundreds of women are living in poor conditions in the five camps in the north of the country after being accused of dabbling in the occult by superstitious neighbours and even their own families.
Now the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Jon Benjamin, is calling for the camps to be closed. He told a meeting in Ghana last month, “Personally, I believe in the 21st Century, it’s time to say there is no such thing as a witch and to decry the practice of using such a term to dehumanise vulnerable women.”
He added that the witch camps — each one holding around 800 women and up to 500 children — were “a form of human right abuse and must be kicked against by all and sundry so as to create a safe environment for development”.
One camp was closed down in 2014 with the help of a British charity, ActionAid, but there is resistance to closing the rest from both villagers who still fear the “witches” in their midst will harm them and the authorities who worry that women sent back to their communities will suffer violence or even death. Here’s how homeschooling is changing in America...
As children head back to school, an increasing number of their homeschooled peers will be starting their academic year as well. Homeschooling in the United States is growing at a strong pace.
Recent statistics indicate that 1.5 million children were homeschooled in the United States in 2007. This is up significantly from 1.1 million children in 2003 and 850,000 children in 1999.
The homeschooling movement first emerged in earnest during the 1980s. Back then it was largely led by evangelical Christians. But as the movement has grown, it has also changed. Today’s homeschooling families may increasingly welcome cooperation with their local public school districts. In my own research, I have seen how diverse homeschoolers now are. This diversity challenges any simplistic understanding of what homeschooling is and what impact it will have on the public school system.
So how do we understand this evolution in American education? Full story...

N.J. woman uses couponing to feed 30,000 people in need...
When she first learned about couponing, her eyes lit up.
Not because of the potential deals on her groceries. For 29-year-old Lauren Puryear, she realized that couponing was the tool she'd been looking for to bring thousands of meals to people in need.
She has set a goal of delivering 30,000 meals to people who are food insecure by her 30th birthday.
Puryear, a Woodbridge resident who is a mental health clinician, has been spending years of her time helping to feed the hungry.
It all began four years ago after the death of her grandmother, who had strongly instilled the importance of helping others. Full story...

Why are there so many cancers now?
C-A-N-C-E-R is the word that strikes horror in the hearts and minds of every human alive. However, that always was not the case. I’m old enough to remember when cancer was a rather ‘rare’ disease or condition. Furthermore, I know medical doctors a little older than my ‘vintage’ who say that when they were in medical school, they were not taught very much about cancer, so much so, that when a cancer patient was in one of the wards in a teaching hospital, the entire class of physicians-in-training was trotted in to see that patient. How interesting?
Personally, I’m of the belief that there is not very much new under the sun EXCEPT what’s being designed and created by genetic modification and geoengineering. Cancer, undoubtedly, has been around in some form probably since very ancient times. However, the current ‘plague of cancers’, even though not an anomaly since just about everyone and his or her brother has or had it, became ‘profitable’ during the latter half of the twentieth century.
There is no doubt that cancer, as an ‘industry’, will become even more problematic—plus profitable—to the point where every person probably will contract cancer in some form or other, almost as if by some ulterior design. Why do I say that? Because of how cancer has been made into a “profitable business,” revenue stream and profit center for varied and numerous vested interests, when there actually are cancer cures controlling vested interests suppress or even keep for themselves. Is that too harsh to hear? Well, have you recently looked into or checked out the ridiculously-priced costs of cancer treatments and protocols? Like all wars, the “war on cancer” is profitable for vested interests.
For starters, the average cost of a new cancer drug is over $100,000 per year. Full story...
