A Malaysian Islamic court sentenced an unemployed youth to be whipped six times and fined 5,000 ringgit (1,620 dollars) for consuming alcohol in public, the Malay-language newspaper Utusan Malaysia reported Friday.
The Kuantan Syariah High Court in Pahang state meted out the maximum punishment allowed under the law against Mohamed Rezzal Mohamed Yussof, 24, after he pleaded guilty on Thursday.
