Doctors warned about using Facebook...

Doctors and medical students could be risking their privacy, damaging their professionalism and risking the doctor-patient relationship through improper use of Facebook, Twitter, and other social media networks, the British Medical Association has warned.

Although it said most medical professionals used internet forums with no problems, new guidance from the BMA urged doctors not to connect with current or former patients as friends.

The guidance also advised that doctors and medical students should adopt "conservative privacy settings", where possible, but added awareness should remain that not all information on the internet could be protected. More...
