Shocked by growing reports about Ultra-Orthodox Jews spitting at Christians in Jerusalem's Old City, a group of Anglo residents is now mobilizing against this ugly practice. Although such incidents reportedly have decreased since a council of Haredi rabbis issued an official condemnation in January in response to the public outcry, Christian and Jewish activists agree the problem is unlikely to disappear anytime soon.

"I felt I had to protest," said Andrea Katz, 57, who is planning several events within Jerusalem's liberal Orthodox Yedidya congregation to show solidarity with the Christian community and educate the English-speaking Jewish public about their Christian neighbors. "I don't think that all of a sudden the Haredi world is going to say: Oh my Gosh, we did so wrong, let's stop this. But somehow I had to do something; I just couldn't sit around and do nothing."

Libya appears to be ratcheting up the pressure in its diplomatic spat with Switzerland, with plans for a "total economic boycott".

The Libyan government spokesman, Mohamed Baayou, told the AFP news agency on Wednesday that the embargo would affect “all economic and commercial exchanges with Switzerland”.

Libya had decided to “adopt other alternatives as far as medicines and medical and industrial equipment imported from Switzerland are concerned,” he said.

Two women were stopped from boarding a plane at Manchester Airport after refusing to undergo a full body scan.

Israel has complained to the Spanish authorities after its embassy in Madrid received postcards from nine-year-old schoolchildren accusing it of killing Palestinian babies and waging war for money.

Several years ago in Iraq parents waited for their children at a bus stop. An errant coalition missile struck the bus stop and blew the elementary school age children to pieces. AN ELEPHANT ran amok at a lavish wedding ceremony in India, causing $303,000 worth of damage.

The elephant, one of three hired for the wedding reception of two politicians' children in New Delhi, went on the rampage after trying to reach an in-heat female elephant.

According to Bangkok-based Thaindian News, the elephant charged a lawn full of wedding guests before flipping over about 20 cars in a nearby parking lot.

It was finally brought under control by a tranquilizer around six hours later, after ramming a police truck and narrowly avoiding injuring two officers within.

WHILE the Top End and Central Australia have been battered by torrential rains, a Territory town has had fish falling from the sky.

The freak phenomena happened not once, but twice, on Thursday and Friday afternoon about 6pm at Lajamanu, about 550km southwest of Katherine.

NEWSBREAKER Christine Balmer, who took these photos of the fish on the ground and in a bucket, had to pinch herself when she was told ``hundreds and hundreds" of small white fish had fallen from the sky.

Over a hundred protesters walked out of a Sunday Mass in the Netherlands yesterday, in defiance at a priest's decision to deny Holy Communion to a gay man.

According to a Radio Netherlands Worldwide, hundreds of people left the service, shouting and singing a hymn which includes the words: “He came to earth from all of us”

Sydney goes naked for art's sake!!!

It was the latest project by American photographer Spencer Tunick , who has organised similar displays of naked humanity all over the world.
