Campaign group Republic has called on MPs to launch a full-scale investigation into the royal expenses scandal. The call follows reports that Prince Andrew is demanding more money from the taxpayer, to fund his daughters’ lifestyles.
In a letter to the Queen, Andrew demanded the Princesses be housed in Kensington Palace – claiming they should be on a par with their cousins William and Harry. A DEMAND by the Duke of York for his daughters to be funded by the taxpayer has been rejected by the Queen. Eugenie currently works for a London art gallery while Beatrice has been jobless since July. In his letter to the Queen, Andrew, 56, also demanded they get new pads at Kensington Palace, instead of their “small” shared flat at St James’s Palace. Prince Andrew is ranked number one as the highest paid princes for the year 2013 with an estimated net worth of $82 million but believes the tax payers of Britain owe his daughters a living which should include them living in luxury. Andrew sold the five acre property to an offshore trust which belonged to Timur Kulibayev, the billionaire son-in-law of the Kazakh president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, who he had entertained as part of his Government role as Britain’s trade ambassador. The controversy surrounding the sale of the 12 bedroom house in 2003 for £3 million over the market value was compounded when the new owners failed to move in and left the house, built as a wedding gift from the Queen to the Duke and Sarah Ferguson, to fall into a state of disrepair.
