Whistleblower Edward Snowden has co-designed a new iPhone case that helps protect the user from surveillance by showing when the device is transmitting information.
Mr Snowden and co-designer Andrew “Bunnie” Huang, a well known hardware hacker who holds a PhD in electrical engineering from MIT, have presented the mock up of the case via video link to an event at the MIT Media Lab in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on Thursday.
The initial mock up of the "introspection engine" looks, and functions, like a battery case with an added display showing whether the device is "dark" or transmitting.
Additionally, the system would also feature an audible alarm that can be set to trip in case any activity is seen on any set of radios, the pair explained in a paper released alongside the presentation. Full story...
