Plant a tree each time you violate a traffic rule. To instill social duty, the police in Mahbubnagar district of Telangana, India have said traffic violators will have to plant a sapling in addition to other punishment and relevant fines.
The idea comes from a brainchild of Mahbubnagar district’s superintendent of police Rema Rajeshwari and became operational before 3 weeks ago
Till now minimum 2,765 violators have planted saplings throughout the district and the police are aiming at planting 1 million saplings in police stations, residential quarters, office buildings and district police office complex.
Drunk-driving along with other traffic offences along national and state highways have kept the graph of growing accident deaths in the district ever scaling upwards. Full story...
