A Spanish doctor who went missing 20 years ago and was declared dead has been found living as a hermit in an Italian forest.
Carlos Sanchez Ortiz de Salazar, 47, was reportedly stumbled across by two weeks ago by two mushroom pickers in a forest near Scarlino, a small town in Tuscany, who described him as having a “dirty face and large beard."
"I am Spanish, my name is Carlos and I have lived here for 20 years,” he told them.
He showed them grubby ID, which they took a picture of, but he refused to be photographed and snapped at them: "Now I must escape."
