Bill Clinton agreed to appear at a fundraising gala for Petra Nemcova's school-building charity only after the Czech model offered $500,000 to the Clinton Foundation, the natural disaster organization's former executive director has claimed in a new report.
Sue Veres Royal said the former president had rejected Nemcova's invitation to appear at the Happy Hearts Fund gala for the 10th anniversary of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami more than once.
But that changed when Clinton was offered 'a thinly veiled solicitation and then the offer of an honorarium' for the June 2014 gala, Veres Royal told the New York Times.
Nemcova, 35, had already been rejected once by Clinton, in 2011, when she asked if he would be the honoree for a fundraising gala celebrating Indonesia with the charity in November 2013.
After she was told by Clinton's scheduler that he already had another commitment, Veres Royal said she met with officers at the Bill, Hillary and Chelsea Clinton Foundation.
Veres Royal, who was reportedly dismissed from her position as executive director a few weeks after the gala due to conflicts over the event and internal issues, claimed she then received a call from Nemcova.
She said Nemcova told her they had to 'include an honorarium for him - that they don't look at these things unless money is offered, and it has to be $500,000'. Full story...
