Almost 60% of young people say they will not vote in the 2015 General Election, shocking figures reveal today.
In an exclusive poll, only 41% of the estimated 3.3 million eligible first-time voters said they will turn up to cast their ballot on Thursday, May 7 next year. The number intending to vote in this month’s Euro election is even lower at 30%.
The survey of young Brits aged 17-21 underlines fears from the main parties that young people are increasingly disengaged from politics.
If, as predicted, two million young people (59%) refuse to vote, it would have a major impact on the election.
The YouGov poll of more than 1,000 people, carried out with the British Future think tank, shows 41% of first-time voters would favour Labour. Full story...
