Hyderabad: College girl kidnapped, raped for 17 months...

The kidnapping, illegal confinement and rape of a college girl for 17 months is threatening to blow up in to a major issue in Hyderabad. The family of the hapless victim has been running form pillar to post for justice and stringent action against the perpetrator.

The incident came to light almost a fortnight ago when the girl managed to flee from her tormentor. Her family reported the matter to the police but not all the guilty, including three policemen, have been brought to book.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Zone, Tarun Joshi has said that a case has been booked against the accused Satyaprakash Singh under Nirbhay Act and has been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. But there has been no indication that the police was taking the case as seriously as it deserves.

The girl is a student of a private polytechnic college and the kidnapper the owner of the canteen in the same college. On April 3, 2012, Satyaprakash Singh drugged and kidnapped her from the college and kept her under captivity for 17 months, tortured and raped her. Full story...
