A Indian man has been arrested for allegedly trying to sell his grandson on Facebook.

The 47-year-old was understood to have arranged for two hospital workers to kidnap the child just hours after he was born.

The tot was then to be sold to a local businessman who he had been in contact with on the social network.

Satish Malhotra, a senior police officer in Ludhiana, northern India, said: "All three people who conspired to sell the child have been arrested and we will be interrogating the businessman who paid the money to buy the baby."
