3 men who claim they were beaten and tortured by Dubai police are among six Britons facing long sentences for possessing or dealing "spice", a synthetic form of cannabis, a court in the emirate was told on Thursday.
One of the group, named as Alistair Ross Cameron, 23, is already appealing a 10-year sentence, while a seventh man who was freed before the charges came to court backed claims by the first three of mistreatment.
"I was held for 86 days and it was the worst experience of my life," the man, who is now entitled to anonymity under Dubai's judicial system, said. "I was hit around the head by an officer when we were emptying out our cells one day. I was not the only one beaten.
"It was insane. The prison was filthy, there were rats everywhere and there were seven men in every cell. You had to sleep wherever you could find space and I would wake every morning with bites all over my body." Full story...
