France in shock over IMF director Strauss-Kahn's arrest for sexual assault...


Allegations of sexual assault against the suave Dominique Strauss-Kahn have left his home country of France in total shock.

Until the drama in New York, the economist had been hotly tipped to replace Nicholas Sarkozy as president next year.

He was widely expected to declare his candidacy for the Socialist Party nomination this summer.

Last year, he was spotted with his wife - broadcaster Anne Sinclair - wearing Obama-inspired T-shirts, proclaiming "Yes we Kahn".

For months, French opinion polls have had the 62-year-old as the runaway favourite ahead of the current unpopular conservative leader. More...
