Iranian footballer's ''temporary wife'' faces execution...

Amnesty International has said the "temporary wife" of an Iranian footballer is to be executed on Wednesday for the murder of the man's permanent wife and has called for the punishment to be halted.

Citing Iranian media reports, the London-based rights group said the lawyer of Khadijeh "Shala" Jahed has said she is to be executed in Tehran's Evin prison at dawn, and it suggested she might have been wrongly convicted.

"Shahla Jahed must be spared execution. The death penalty represents the ultimate denial of human rights," Malcolm Smart, Amnesty director for the Middle East and North Africa, said in a statement. More...
