Scotland Yard spends £310,000 every day on security for royals and VIPs...

Scotland Yard is spending at least £310,000 every day protecting royalty, VIPs and diplomats, it can be revealed today.

The Met ran up a £113,598,687 bill in 2009/10 for armed bodyguards who shadow high-profile individuals and patrol at-risk properties such as embassies and royal residences.

The figure was included in internal budget papers filed by accountants at the end of the financial year. More...
