In Chennai (India), "expired" supermarket food is repackaged and sold!!!

The criminal investigation department (CID) wing dealing with civil supplies products cases on Friday busted a major racket in north Chennai involved in the sale of stale edible and other goods disposed of by supermarkets.

Acting on a tip-off, a CID team conducted a raid at a godown in Royapuram and found a unit which repackaged goods — both of the edible and non-edible varieties — disposed of by big supermarkets because the items were past their expiry dates. The police sealed the godown, which had stored more than Rs 10 lakh worth of expired goods. More...
