Man shoots himself while ... sleepwalking???
Police said a Boulder man who told police he woke up to a "bang" and realized he suffered a gunshot wound to his knee likely shot himself while sleepwalking. The Daily Camera reported that 63-year-old Sanford Rothman told investigators he had no clear recollection of the incident early Tuesday morning. No one else was in Rothman's home at the time.
Boulder police Sgt. Paul Reichenback said that Rothman keeps a 9 mm handgun near his bed and takes presciption medication for pain. Police said no alcohol or illegal drugs played a role in the incident.

Singapore teacher sues Ministry of Education for not providing "safe working environment..."
A TEACHER, who was accidentally locked in a school on a Saturday afternoon and injured herself trying to get out, is suing the Ministry of Education (MOE) for negligence and for not ensuring a safe working environment.
Madam Sivakami Sivanantham, 39, also contends that MOE has caused her to suffer wrongful or false imprisonment.
At the start of the hearing on Monday, the teacher at Zhangde Primary School testified that the school moved to its new premises in Tiong Bahru in 2005. More...

Germany's foreign ministry says it has signed an agreement with Afghanistan to give 14 million dollars to Taliban militants, who choose to lay down their arms, every year.

Arundhati Roy: Pity the nation that needs to jail those who ask for justice...
Author Arundhati Roy, who has stirred up a sedition controversy with her remarks on Kashmir - 'Kashmir was never an integral part of India' - has now reiterated that her words echo what "millions of people say (in Kashmir) every day".
In a statement from Srinagar, she said: "I write this from Srinagar, Kashmir. This morning's papers say that I may be arrested on charges of sedition for what I have said at recent public meetings on Kashmir. I said what millions of people here say every day. I said what I, as well as other commentators have written and said for years. Anybody who cares to read the transcripts of my speeches will see that they were fundamentally a call for justice. I spoke about justice for the people of Kashmir who live under one of the most brutal military occupations in the world; for Kashmiri Pandits who live out the tragedy of having been driven out of their homeland; for Dalit soldiers killed in Kashmir whose graves I visited on garbage heaps in their villages in Cuddalore... Yesterday, I traveled to Shopian, the apple-town in South Kashmir which had remained closed for 47 days last year in protest against the brutal rape and murder of Asiya and Nilofer, the young women whose bodies were found in a shallow stream near their homes and whose murderers have still not been brought to justice. All surveillance cameras put up in largely Muslim areas of Birmingham should be removed, the chief constable of West Midlands Police has said.
The 200 surveillance cameras, some of which were hidden, were paid for with £3m of government money earmarked for tackling terrorism.
Last month an independent report was highly critical of the scheme.

Gunther von Hagens, a German anatomist famous for his controversial Body World exhibition displaying plastinated bodies, is now selling human and animal body parts -- even as jewelry -- online.
The move has provoked strong condemnation from German churches which accuse him of degrading human dignity.
A whole body from www.plastination-products.com costs about 70,000 euros ($97,400), torsos start at 55,644 euros and heads come in at around 22,000 euros each -- excluding postage and packaging.

More than 65% of children on average said they had received corporal punishment, according to children's organisation Plan International.
Its report found that the majority of these children attended state schools.

Noted Indian human rights activist and booker prize winner, Arundhati Roy on Sunday dropped a bombshell stating that Indian-held Kashmir has never been an integral part of India.
She also advocated the right to self-determination for the people of Kashmir, She said that in 1947, British imperialism was replaced with Indian colonialism which has been in place to subjugate and oppress the people of such states which demand “azadi” (freedom) from India.
“Kashmir has never been an integral part of India. It is a historical fact,” Arundhati said.
She said India after getting independence from British emerged as a “new colonizing power”. More...

This vending machine in Nanjing sells live crabs. One Shanghai Hairy Crab costs between the equivalent of US $1.50 to $7.50, depending on its size. The machine, which is kept at a temperature which cause the crabs to go into hibernation, guarantees live crabs. If the crab you get is dead, it will be replaced by three live ones!

The dismembered body of a young albino boy has been found in a river on the Burundi-Tanzania border, reports say.
