Chinese and Russian firms are the most likely to pay bribes while operating abroad - according to a new index that suggests British firms have become more corrupt.
Transparency International's latest 'Bribe Payers' Index' says corruption occurs most in public works contracts and construction.
The countries with the lowest rates of bribery are Holland, Switzerland, Belgium, Germany and Japan.
Despite new legislation this year making bribery between firms an offence, Britain saw its score fall from 8.6 out of 10 to 8.3.
The UK is ranked the eighth least corrupt, with the United States ninth in the 28-country index, which includes every member of the G20 group of industrialised nations.
