Violence as waves of unrest sweep Middle East...


British and American officials are advising against all but essential travel to Bahrain, where clashes between security forces and protesters are ongoing in the capital, Manama.

The Foreign Office says travellers should avoid the cities of Benghazi, Ajdabiya, Al-Bayda, Al-Marj, Derna and Tobruk in eastern Libya, where campaigners say 84 people have been killed over the past three days.

Foreign Secretary William Hague issued a statement condemning the use of "unacceptable and horrifying" violence by Libyan authorities and calling on governments across the Arab world to respond to the "legitimate aspirations" of their people, rather than using force on protesters.

Mr Hague added: "In Bahrain, I urge the Bahraini authorities to reach out to the protesters and to hold to account those responsible for deaths. More...
