Asia's richest woman allegedly gave away her multi-billion-US-dollar fortune to a Hong Kong feng shui master in return for a promise of eternal life, a news report said Tuesday. Nina Wang, who died of cancer last year at age 69, signed over her vast fortune to previously unknown feng shui master Tony Chan as a result of the promise, a lawyer quoted by the South China Morning Post said.

The claim was made by a barrister for the late billionaire's charitable foundation in a preliminary hearing Monday to challenge the will of Wang, former head of Hong Kong's Chinachem property empire.

A highly anticipated, eight-week court battle is due to be held next year in Hong Kong's High Court into Wang's will, which left the Chinachem fortune - estimated to be worth up to 13 billion US dollars - to Chan. More...

Malaysian fortune-teller jailed for fleecing Singapore woman of $41.000!!!

A Malaysian fortune teller was sentenced to 15 months in jail by a Singapore court on Friday for fleecing a woman of 60,000 Singapore dollars (41,430 US dollars), the Straits Times reported Saturday.

Tan Ka Chuan received regular payments from Singaporean Lee Lye Fong in exchange for promises to perform rituals that would protect her family and make her wealthy.

Lee herself went through a police probe for dipping into the funds of her employer to pay for Tan's bogus promises.

Tan, 36 and a Malaysian national, used the money pay his gambling debts. He admitted to the police that he had no powers to see the future and did not perform any religious rites.

Lee's payments to Tan go back five years, said the report.

Finance, wealth and ... slavery? Hong Kong one of Asia’s worst for forced labour...

Hong Kong, a city commonly associated with finance and wealth, has one of the highest proportions of people enslaved across Asia, a new report has found.

At least 29,500 people out of a population of more than seven million are trapped in modern slavery in one of the 10 richest cities in the world based on its gross domestic product, according to the Global Slavery Index 2016, which assessed the problem in 167 countries and regions.

The sobering figures which specifically concern Hong Kong may come as a surprise, but the hard-hitting report stated that the city has become one of the worst places in Asia for its poor response to the problem, performing worse than mainland China.

The city urgently needs tougher laws and a “transparent plan of action” to combat the problem, human rights group Justice Centre Hong Kong said. Full story...
