A fierce storm washed a mysterious carcass ashore in New Zealand, conjuring up images of mythical sea monsters and dinosaurs.
Beachgoers wondered if they discovered a prehistoric animal when they stopped their four-wheel vehicles on Pukehina Beach along the Bay of Plenty.
"People have been asking about it all weekend. It's caused a bit of 'What is it?' in the beach," Luana Lovell-Dewes, one of the women who found the remains, told local station 3 News.
The intimidating teeth and otherworldly head shape confounded the group so they posted a video of the approximately 30-foot-long creature to YouTube asking if anyone could identify the species. They also sent photos to the Department of Conservation and an Auckland aquarium. Full story...
