A plane carrying 170 people to Birmingham was grounded at Vienna airport for six hours until the passengers raised £24,000 in unpaid fees.
The plane aircraft, operated by the charter airline Comtel, was held on the tarmac while those on board were taken to cash machines to find the money needed.
It had stopped at Vienna on the way back from Amritsar when the passengers found themselves involved in the stand off between the airline and the airport authorities.
Desperate to get home they handed over what Euros they had to make sure the plane, a Boeing 757, could complete its journey. Full story...
