Crimes against women, including forced marriages and sexual assaults, have risen by 18 percent in Pakistan over a period of one year, reveals a report.
According to a Free and Fair Election Network (FAFEN) report, the number of reported crimes has risen from 849 in May 2010 to 999 in May 2011, Daily Times reported Saturday.
FAFEN was established in 2006 as a coalition of approximately 30 leading civil society organisations in Pakistan with the primary objective of mobilising voters and observing the general elections that took place in February 2008.
FAFEN's latest report is based on a comparison of the number of first information reports (FIRs) pertaining to anti-women crimes in Pakistan's 61 districts. More...
