Headmaster in Madurai school sexually harassed more than 40 girls...

The headmaster of a government school has been booked for allegedly sexually harassing many girl students. About 40 girl students, studying in classes VI to X, have complained against M Arogiasamy (54), headmaster of Pothumbu Government High School on the city's outskirts.

The charge against Arogiasamy is that for the past several months, he has been sexually harassing girls. Many girls who resisted were caned, alleged SK Ponnuthai, secretary of the All India Democratic Women's Association. The headmaster has not turned up at school.

 "We are trying to find the headmaster's whereabouts," said Koodal Pudur sub-inspector Antony Jegatha. She said Arogiasamy was booked under IPC sections 354 (outraging a woman's modesty) and section 506 (criminal intimidation or causing injury). Both sections attract a punishment of two years each.
