A principal of a school in Kinhavali was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly raping and mentally harassing a teacher over four years. According to the complaint, the teacher joined the zilla parishad primary school in 2006 and soon after, Gavit started harassing her, accusing her of coming late and not teaching well. He continued torturing her mentally , and on one occasion, he raped her. He also then threatened her that she would be terminated if she lodged a complaint, the police said.
"Even after the victim got married, Gavit kept pestering her and would even visit her at her residence where he would rape her over the years. Finally, the victim revealed everything to her husband in March," Manohar Patil, in-charge of Kinhavali police station told TOI. "The couple lodged a complaint with us on Monday night after which we arrested Gavit from his residence in Shahapur." Gavit has been sent to police custody till January 10. Source...
