Now starring in a Facebook ad near you... it's YOU (and they're not paying a penny)


Facebook users may find themselves the unwitting stars of adverts on the site if they click the ‘Like’ button to indicate they are a fan of a product.

The website has begun using subscriber’s profile pictures, allowing friends to see each other endorsing firms such as Starbucks coffee shops.

The website has insisted the controversial ‘sponsored stories’ feature, which quietly launched in January, falls within its privacy settings.

But some technology websites have issued tips to Facebook users on how to disable it through their account settings.
