Early adopters of Windows 7 are “very satisfied” with the program, but nearly half of consumers surveyed said they saw no reason to upgrade from Windows XP, according to two reports released Monday by Forrester Research.
The report on Windows 7 users could be good news for Microsoft as it tries to improve customer satisfaction after problems with Windows 7’s predecessor, Vista. But Forrester points out that Microsoft still has “hurdles to leap” in getting people to upgrade.

But almost as many — 43% — said they didn’t see any reason they should upgrade from Windows XP. According to Netmarketshare, 65.5% of users were on Windows XP in February, with 16.5% on Vista and 8.9% on Windows 7. (Mac OS users totaled about 5%.) “The biggest competitor to Windows 7 isn’t the Mac — it’s Windows XP,” Forrester analysts wrote. “For an operating system released in 2001, that’s astonishing stickiness.” Full story...
