India planning model villages for low-caste Dalits...

In an effort to improve the standard of living of Dalits in the country, the Union Ministry of Science and Technology has chalked out a plan to develop model villages in eight states of India.

"Through technology intervention and various other measures like mini cottage industries, a plan has been chalked out to make these villages as real models," said Dr Anil P Joshi, head of HESCO - a Dehradun-based NGO which will coordinate the project.

The project will be headed by Dr Vinita Sharma, advisor to the Ministry of Science and Technology.More...
