Two Polish women in Szczecin appeared in court yesterday in this city for having sun-bathed topless in a beach, something that is frowned upon in this most Catholic of countries. The women, one of whom is a fashion model, were questioned in May by a police patrol. Reprimanded, they refused to cover their breasts and to pay their 150 zlotys (40euro) fine. They were, thus, ordered to appear in court.
The two women, aged 26 and 28, pleaded not guilty, arguing that there was no clear indication at the beach about topless bathing. They further stated that their action did not seem to offend anyone at the beach.
The Szczecin court will announce its verdict on the 7th. of November.
