Sister Alphonsa, India's first (Catholic) woman saint...

Thousands of Christians were flocking to a small town in Kerala on Saturday to celebrate the planned canonisation of a Roman Catholic nun, against a backdrop of the worst anti-Christian riots in decades.

Sister Alphonsa will become India's first woman saint when she is canonised by Pope Benedict at a special ceremony at the Vatican on Sunday.

"It is a very important event and a big recognition for a woman born in a simple, ordinary Indian family," said Archbishop Raphael Cheenath in Orissa.

"At this time of suffering, it will help us and inspire us."

Tens of thousands of people were thronging a church in the town of Bharananganam in Sister Alphonsa's native Kerala ahead of the occasion.

Special masses are being held in all Catholic churches in the state, where Saint Thomas, one of the 12 apostles, is believed to have arrived in 52 AD, bringing Christianity to India. More...

  1. I am surprised that Sister Alphonso is the first woman saint of India

India have lot of other saints being a "Secular Country" Indias first Woman saints are "Maitreyi", Gargi, Andal, etc etc.. they all belong to Hindu community why this partisianship in India.. Why you want to conquer other countries and change it to christianity??? why why why

As a part of its time tested localisation strategy ,Church Inc narrows down on an obscure nun from Kerala who is alleged to have performed medically certified “miracles” and Ratzinger wastes no time in canonising her as ” Saint Alphonsamma” .It would not be difficult to argue that this is a token gesture in recognition of enormous number of low cost religious foot soldiers that Church Inc has been able to recruit from the central districts of Kerala especially in the context of human resource crisis that its faces in the Christian bastion of Europe .

The fanatical followers of imperialist political ideologies aka Abrahamic religions are completely entitled to believe in evidently manifest irrationalities likes “Miracle” ,”Sainthood”,”Immaculate Conception” but what was despicable was the way in which the self-professed secular mainstream media in India converted this purely private Vatican religious fantasy in to one of those now customary “India Shining ” kind of campaigns that we are often bombarded -remember how a non-existent patriotic angle was played up when some out of work Bollywood starlet faked her way to glory in a British TV show or when a football used in a World Cup final was manufactured in Ludhiana or when an American ,born to Indian parents won a municipal election in US

Even more more shocking was seeing the journalist in NDTV/CNN blatantly declaring, without even an iota of skepiticism, that alleged “miracles” of Alphonsa were medically verified .All norms of journalistic properitary was thrown to winds and channels were doubling up as Christian Mouthpieces.A viewer would not be faulted if they believed that it was a gospel broadcasting channel that they were watching rather than a newschannel. That Christist have infiltrated media is clearly evident now -the outrightly biased coverage of the recent attacks on “Churches” was one clear demonstration of this .It should come as no suprise if rags like TOI have sold space to Church groups to propagate their victimhood tales

One vividly remembers that when millions of gullible Indians sincerely believed that Lord Ganesha was drinking milk, the Mainstream media rightfully assembled few eminent scientist in the studio who clearly explained the scientific rationale for that observed phenomenon. But on today’s occassion of canonisation of Alphonsa, one could hardly find sceptics/rationalist being invited to the studio to expose the Vatican tricketers and charlatans

Visual Medias especially, CNN IBN is carrying out a hyper propaganda titled “Indian Miracle Nun” about Sr.Alphonsa who is being canonised as a Saint by the Pope.

The Church has gone on an overdrive and given hyper publicity to this event. What is the great miracle ? A small boy has claimed that he was born with a defective foot and by praying to Sr.Alphonsa he has become normal ! Immediately Vatican investigators have proclaimed it as a miracle. A panel of Christian doctors have also certified it as a miracle.

So it is not godliness that is the qualification for sainthood but capacity to perform miracles ! If this is such a great miracle then we can shut down many hospitals. The cheapest and simplest medical cure has been discovered !

Imagine if a Hindu saint was to be eulogised in this manner. This very same TV channel alongwith other English channels would have gone berserk ridiculing and teasing. There would be live debates on these channels by rationalists. Bets would have been proclaimed. Leftists would have organised dharnas, hartals and bandhs against superstitious practices. The entire Hindu community would have to bear the taunts of Dravidian parties. Now, everybody is silent. Congress party has organised a jamboree gang to visit Rome at taxpayer’s expense. The FM is releasing a commemorative coin.

What shameless hypocrisy is happenning in this countrY.

THIS IS REAL STUPIDITY TO SAY ALPHONSA A SAINT IN FRIST PLACE.

  2. The "shameless hypocrisy" is not only happening in India: it's happening everywhere. Only in some places it's blatantly obvious while in others it's less so. Sigh...
