President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday threw insults at the American people, describing them as "loud and discourteous" while praising Filipinos and Orientals as "fundamentally shy" and a very courteous race.
In a speech before businessmen and Chinese officials, Duterte said Filipinos and Orientals "bow at the slightest good statement" and would whisper to each other even if they have already been introduced.
In comparison, he said Americans "are a little bit loud, sometimes rowdy; and they have this volume of their voice and their larynx not well adjusted to civility."
"The problem is when you talk to the Westerners, Americans and all,
they are a very discourteous people," he added.
The President, who announced a "separation" of ties with the US during the state visit, said that in his 23 years as mayor of Davao City, he had yet to hear of American businesses going to the city for basic trade deals such as fruit importation, similar to what is being done by China.
