South Africa's deputy president moves to replace government-issue condoms that 'make a noise when used'

South Africa’s deputy president came in for teasing in parliament on Thursday when he introduced a new brand of government-issue condoms to replace older ones that “made a noise when it was used”.

Cyril Ramaphosa, who is affectionately nicknamed “Cereal” by South Africans, battled to keep a straight face as he held up the multi-coloured packs, much to the evident embarrassment of a female colleague behind him who grimaced and rolled her eyes.

Mr Ramaphosa told his audience during parliamentary question time that government research had suggested their previous brand, Choice, was not popular.

He promised that the new version, Max, would provide “maximum pleasure, maximum protection”.

“The Max condom is in response to what a number of people were saying, they were saying that the other condom that had been introduced by government did not smell so well and it made a noise whenever it was used,” he said, to laughter and shouting from fellow MPs. Full story...
