Singapore steps up security after foiling rocket attack...

Singapore has stepped up its border and inland security after Indonesian police arrested six suspected militants thought to be planning a rocket attack on the small city-state.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said that they were aware that plans were being made by the terror suspects, and that the Ministry had been working closely with Indonesian authorities to monitor and apprehend them.

The six suspects, who were arrested on the small Indonesian island of Batam, are believed to be linked to the so-called Islamic State.

The Home Affairs and Minister for Law, K. Shanmugam said in a statement: "We were aware of the plans being made to attack us with rockets.

"The attacks can come from terrorists who seek to come into Singapore; and they can come from terrorists who locate themselves just outside Singapore. Our small size increases these risks."

Singapore is seen as one of the safest countries in the world, with an extremely low crime rate. It has never been attacked by Islamist militants. Source...
