At the beginning of this year, aid worker Anja Ringgren Loven shared a photo of herself giving a starving child some water.
The two-year-old boy, called Hope, had apparently been abandoned by his family near Uyo, southern Nigeria.
When he was found on January 30, he was thought to have spent eight months fending for himself and living off scraps. After giving him some water, Anja wrapped him up in a blanket and took him to the hospital for treatment.
Her photo with Hope went viral, and captured the hearts of people around the world. Within just two days, the organisation had received one million Danish kroner (£106,712) in donations for Hope.
Anja’s organisation took Hope in two months ago and, since then, he has made an incredible recovery. He has gained weight, and is finally a happy, healthy toddler. More + photos...
