More than a dozen women from Melbourne have joined those with a romantic view of Islamic State making their way to conflict zones, leaving their 'distraught' parents to contact police.
Police say about 12 women from Melbourne, possibly more, have made the journey to Syria.
Five now live in the conflict zone, four were turned back in Turkey, one was stopped in Australia and two are unaccounted for, Victoria police said on Friday.
Assistant Commissioner Tracy Linford says there is a trend of young women forming a 'romantic view' and making the journey to meet IS.
'They think they will be put on a pedestal and treated very well overseas but the reality is that is not the case,' Asst Comm Linford told reporters on Friday. Full story...
