A Daily Star Sunday investigation has found pharmacists in the Arab state are receiving backhanders every time they tell police of an unmarried woman buying the contraceptives.
Strict laws in the Arab state prohibit sexual relations between a couple until they are married, with any breach of that law listed as a “boyfriend” crime.
One woman living in Dubai has come forward to warn others – but asked not to be named for fear of reprisals.
The bank clerk moved to Dubai six years ago and says it is a “different world” out there.
“A lot of the women living out here don’t know this is going on,” she said. Full story...
