A husband, wife and their 14 year-old daughter have died of food poisoning in the Spanish town of Alcala de Guadaira. The probable cause was a meal consisting of donated items eaten on Friday night at the family's home. A 13 year-old girl was also taken ill and remains hospitalized.
After telephoning for help at around 2:55 am Saturday, the family was treated by a mobile emergency team consisting of a doctor and a nurse. All four family members were suffering from nausea and vomiting, but the medical team saw no need to take them to a hospital.
At around 9:10 am that morning emergency services received a second call from the same address. The team sent on this second occasion found the two adults in serious condition and the 14-year-old in cardiac arrest. The family was then transferred to local hospitals.
The 14-year-old could not be revived. The 13-year-old daughter was transferred to the intensive care unit of a children's hospital. The 61-year-old father and 50-year-old mother were admitted to the critical care unit of another hospital, where they passed away at 5:15 pm and 6:00 pm respectively. Full story...
