Airline cat death sparks outrage, apology...

The death of a cat on a Jet Airways flight has sparked outrage online and prompted two apologies from the India-based airline on its Facebook page.

The cat, James Dean, was the pet of Preeti Varma, according to an open letter to the airline on the website Wild at Heart. The cat was crushed to death by a trolley when it escaped from its cage on the airport tarmac, according to the letter and confirmed by a statement from the airline.

The cat and its owner were to be on flight 9W18 from Delhi to Singapore on March 23.

Varma arrived "well in time" for her Jet Airways flight, the airline said. She was required to remove the cat from its carrier while the carrier traveled through the X-ray machine. The cat escaped from Varma's arms during the process. The letter said an airport worker poked "the frightened animal with a stick," which the airline denied.

The cat was placed back in its carrier and taken to be transported to the aircraft. "CCTV footage on the tarmac area shows the pet jumping out of the trolley and being unfortunately run over by another trolley travelling in the opposite direction," according to the airline. Full story...
