2,500 needless deaths at single hospital in 10 years...

UP to 2,500 patients have died needlessly at an NHS trust over the past decade.

Unpublished figures compiled for the Sunday Express reveal there have been 544 deaths at Basildon Hospital, Essex, in the past two years alone.

The hospital is one of 14 under investigation by NHS England in the wake of the Francis Inquiry into Stafford Hospital, published last February, where up to 1,200 patients died unnecessarily over a four-year period.

The new figures have been put together by Professor Sir Brian Jarman, who works at Imperial College, London, and runs the Dr Foster Intelligence Unit on hospital deaths. Full story...
