11-year-old boy evades airport security, flies from Manchester to Rome...

A runaway boy aged 11 managed to evade a raft of security checks to board a flight to Rome from Manchester without a passport, a boarding pass or cash.

Airport staff have been suspended and a top-level investigation launched after the major security lapse on Tuesday afternoon.

The captain was only alerted to the young stowaway when passengers became suspicious as the jet headed to Italy.

Hours earlier the youngster had run away from his mother while she was shopping at Wythenshawe Civic Centre and made his way to Manchester Airport.

It is understood he managed to work his way through security checks under the cover of the confusion at Terminal 1 which was packed with people heading away for the summer holidays. Full story...
