Russian mother kept son locked up for 33 years...

A 43-year-old Russian man spent most of his life imprisoned by his mother in a 10 meter square room in a communal apartment, lifenews.ru reported on Thursday.

Dmitry Kuvaldin's mother kept him locked up at home in the city of Saratov in a bid to protect him from any contact with the outside world. The recluse son only saw the outside world after his mother died in 2002.

Kuvaldin grew up as a normal child for his first seven years, and went to kindergarten, and learned how to read and write.

His life completely changed after the death of his father. When his mother came back from her husband's funeral and saw neighboring boys laughing at her son, she decided that she would never again allow him to be abused, and kept him locked up in his room for 33 years.

Kuvaldin has struggled to cope with adulthood since he has been free. He initially did a little work as a courier, and procured a small disability pension, but has since become a recluse. Source...
