South African foreign minister rents £20,000 private jet rather than have handbag scanned!!!

South Africa's foreign minister spent £20,000 on a private jet after getting into a shouting match with security officials at Oslo airport when she refused to let them X-ray her handbag, it has emerged.

Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, who had been visiting Norway on a state visit, is said to have been in such a rage after the incident, at Gardermoen International Airport, that she refused to take up her first-class seat on a plane to Bulgaria, where she was due on another diplomatic mission.

She claimed that she should have diplomatic immunity under the Vienna Convention – but Norway is signed up to European Union rules that exempt only royalty and heads of state.

Instead, Mrs Nkoana-Mashabane returned to the Hotel Grand in Oslo and her aides booked a private plane to depart from the airport's VIP terminal where her bag was not scanned. The flight cost South African taxpayers R235,343 (£20,100). Full story...

  1. On a Private Jet the handbag or even the luggage's wasn't scanned for security purpose. Thats why many choose it to be more privacy.
