As a man with 13 wives, King Mswati III of Swaziland might be expected to take a relaxed view of one who apparently strays from his fold - even if her alleged transgression is with a minister of the crown.
The polygamous king, educated at Sherborne School, who was a guest at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge accompanied by another of his wives, is Africa’s last absolute monarch with an estimated fortune of £60 million.
But since the justice minister of Swaziland was discovered hiding in the base of Queen Nothando Dube’s bed last year, she claims that guards and court officials have made her life a misery, banning her from contact with the king.
Now the queen, a former Miss Teen Swaziland and the king’s twelfth wife, claims she is under effective house arrest, prevented from visiting her own family or friends and assaulted if she tries to leave the small private palace where she lives with her three children - all descendants from the royal line.
