Sam Westrop, a spokesman for Clean Cash campaign, said it was "unforgivable" for the university to accept money from the prince.
He said: "Edinburgh University has been a bastion of liberal thought for centuries.
"For the university to betray such liberal principles by accepting money from one of the world's most despotic countries is unforgivable.
"Saudi Arabia is a state that forbids criticism of the royal family and enforces a brutal system of apartheid. How dare the university sell influence to such a barbaric government?"
He added: "(We have] determined that by accepting money from such sources, academic independence is lost and objective criticism of such funding sources is discouraged.
"At a time when the Arab people are fighting for self-determination and true liberty, the university is befriending the very institutions that are suppressing such bids." Full story...
