Atrocities are being committed by both sides in the Libyan war, with summary executions of prisoners and the killing of hospital patients in their beds.
At a crossroads near a house where Colonel Gaddafi was suspected of hiding, the bodies of 17 of the dictator’s loyalist bodyguards – some with their hands bound behind their backs and bullet wounds in the head – lay rotting in the sun yesterday.
With human rights groups calling on both sides to exercise restraint, the bodies near Gaddafi’s compound still carried identity cards showing they were mostly African mercenaries recruited by the dictator.
