A 16-year-old schoolboy was murdered for protecting his sister from molesters in Barasat, just 15km from Kolkata airport, on Monday night. Rajib Das was battered with a beer bottle and a revolver butt but kept fighting to save his sister, who was being dragged away by the gang. The goons stabbed him six times but he still refused to let go.
His sister, Rinku, kept screaming for help but no one came to their aid, although the district magistrate's office is a stone's throw away. A rickshawpuller tried to intervene but the gang beat him unconscious. In the end, when the gang realized Rajib was not going to buckle, they ran away.
