Germans wary of new eID cards...

Germany a country with a history of gathering reams of information on its citizens. While the modern German government may have little in common with the old regimes that were so feared by citizens, the fear of giving the government too much personal data lingers.

Citizens are concerned over new eID cards that the German government is set to start issuing. The new cards use technology inside that stores personal information like birth date, where the person was born, address, and a photo along with fingerprints if the person volunteers them. German authorities say that the new eID cards will allow the card owner to sign documents digitally and to identify themselves online allowing them to "increase the safety and convenience of e-business and e-commerce" according to the German government.
